Tom Voorhees was happy to watch his daughter finally receive her college degree. Tom also attended his "mumble mumbleth" reunion at Princeton. He also reported that he is feeling much better following the health incident last Friday. Unfortunately Mary Ellen stepped on a dog bone and is now hobbling around on a sore ankle.

Dale Bronson was happy to be able to finally mow his own lawn. The doctor has removed any restrictions he previously had. Many hands arose to offer to have Dale come do their lawn. Dale said he witnessed the Teddy Bear's Picnic outside his house with two bears lumbering around.

Rollie Sterrett congratulated Craig and Jean Buhrendorf on receiving the Major Donor award from the Rotary Foundation. He also told a joke that was not fit for publication but otherwise had a great punch line. You had to be there!!

Craig Buhrendorf enjoyed the Friday night dinner and thanked Don for a great two years. He and Jean are headed to the Bronx for a baseball game. They enjoyed being in Yarmouth, ME, recently for a graduation.

Larry Sullivan was happy for Dale and said that the Golf Tournament sponsorships and advertisements were coming in a great pace so far.

Nancy Nation was very happy that her daughter's adopted daughter was graduating High School this month.

Jimmy Ssekawaabe was sorry to have missed the dinner due to an engagement in Rhode Island. He said he is very proud to wear his Rotary pin and made a very interesting connection with another Rotarian while in RI.

Presentation

Marisol Feliciano
Trinity Health of New England
Violence and Injury Prevention Program Coordinator

Linda Pendergast introduced Marisol who covers Hartford, Tolland and Windham counties.
Marisol brought a good bag with medicine cap removers and some other items that she likes to hand out at training sessions. As the Program Coordinator she leads many different types of programs in her service area.

One program is called Let's Not Meet By Accident, which acquaints high school students from around the state with the consequences of an automobile accident. This year, the program has trained 688 students from 16 high schools in 13 towns. During the training the students get to see all the phase of the trauma process at Saint Francis. She said the aim of the program is to enable students to make much better choices.

The program also runs It's A Matter of Balance which is an Elder Fall Prevention Program. Participants learn techniques to improve their balance and also diminish the fear of falling.

Her program has developed a great relationship with the Hartford Yard Goats who help with promoting the programs and making the public aware of the benefits. The Yard Goats help to raise funds for bike helmets and car booster seats.

Marisol is a certified car seat instructor. A brochure entitled, Is Your Child in the Right Car Seat?, was handed out to each member. During training sessions parents are instructed on the correct seating for their children by age and weight. During 2017 over 1400 people were helped and 359 car seats were provided to those that needed a replacement and couldn't afford a new one. Marisol said that car seats expire and are often subject to recalls and need to be replaced or taken out of service.

Another program is Gun Buy Back Program which removed over 350 firearms from people that wanted to turn in an unwanted gun.

Stop the Bleed teaches participants how to pack a wound and apply a tourniquet while awaiting for emergency services to arrive following a 911 call.

Finally, the Ready to Roll program teaches bike and helmet safety to young children and their parents.

“The FOUR-WAY TEST of the things we think, say or do”:

1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all Concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
