Ben Dunning - the first Crew Regatta of the season for Lewis S. Mills High School is scheduled for this weekend. Ben's wife Donna is the coach. Ben is happy that Hurricane Joaquin will apparently stay well South of Connecticut and not ruin the Regatta.
Joanne Santiago - detailed that Club members are donating to the Rotary Foundation this year at a faster rate than last year. She also urged everyone to attend the District Rotary Foundation Dinner which is coming up November 5. (See Below). Joanne added that the Club will pick up the cost of dinner for all members who attend. Members need only pay for their spouses.
Lisa Barall-Matt - outlined several Happy Dollars:
1. She has "accumulated a new son-in-law."
2. A two week trip to Italy was "the best trip" she ever took. While there, she got to take a cooking class.
3. Through Kickstarter, her daughter has lined up backing to produce a vertical planter. It will be sold through WalMart.
Robin DiNicola - is leaving for New Hampshire. Her son has a hockey tournament there over the weekend.
Larry Sullivan - reported that, for the first time since the fire, the car dealership and the shop are now fully open and "back in business." The Torrington Fire Department responded quickly when the fire started six weeks ago. The damage could've been much worse. As a token of appreciation, the Sullivan Family has donated a $2,600 infrared device to the Department. It will help firefighters locate the heat source when a fire begins. This will save precious minutes.
Josh Gillooly - called the Golf Tournament "fantastic," and he committed to heading up the Cooking Crew again next year. He also greeted Drew Rossler. Josh attended Northwest Catholic as well.
Steve Harris - thanked all the members who helped out at Avon Day. They include: Craig Buhrendorf, Phil Worley, Nancy and Craig Nation, Devra Sisitsky, Mike Sherber, Paul Ciofarri, Hank Frey, Bob Cave, Capri Frank, Ann Clark, Salin Low, and Phil Ferrari. Steve extended special thanks to Ed Queirolo for transporting equipment, Chuck Joseph for donating the drinks and Capri Frank for transporting leftover drinks to the St Ann pantry via the Miller truck. Steve additionally acknowledged the Avon High students who worked in the booth as well.
Dale Bronson - for Throwback Thursday on Facebook, Dale posted the above picture taken at the June 2009 President's Dinner. Peter Vignati was the Immediate Past Present, Josh Gillooly was the Incoming President and Dale was the Outgoing President. Within an hour and a half of posting the picture, Dale had received two serious inquiries from his friends about joining the Rotary Club of Avon-Canton.
Tom Voorhees - summarized that 49 kids were registered at the Avon Day Amber Alert session. He thanked everyone who helped. Additionally, Tom recollected that the Club purchased infrared heat-finding devices for the Avon and Canton Fire Departments when Pat Clark was President. (See Above - Larry Sullivan Happy Dollar).
Peter Vignati - and Susanne were in Wisconsin last week. They visited the home of Frank Lloyd Wright. Peter says the visit gave Susanne "all kinds of ideas." Peter played golf at the highly regarded American Club.
Bob Cave - acknowledged the work President Gary Miller put in at Avon Day.
Craig Buhrendorf - for their 25th anniversary, Craig and Jeane will be travelling to Nicaragua. They leave on Thursday, October 8th. Craig explained that Daniel Ortega (who gained great notoriety during the Iran-Contra scandal) is still in charge of Nicaragua. Ortega presently is trying to build a canal linking the Atlantic and the Pacific with help from China. Craig and Jeane will be checking that out.
Don Rossler - after several funny comments from several Club members about feeling old with a kid in high school, it turns out Don actually has TWINS in high school.
Phil Worley - reminded that the October Rotary Pub Night is coming up next Tuesday, October 6. (See Below). The picture above is from the September Pub Night at Saybrook Fish House.
Gary Miller - President Gary commended everyone for "pitching in" to get the Club through a week that included Sam Collins Day, the Golf Tournament and Avon Day.
