Golf
Larry Sullivan reminded us that the golf tournament is about one month away - on September 12. He encouraged us to get ads, recruit workers for various duties, and sign up golfers NOW. Avoid the late scramble.
Gary Hyde reminded members that there the forms needed to receive tax free shopping are kept at the sergeant-at-arms table.
Heather Pantano encouraged members to get auction items. We would still like golf foursomes at various courses. She has a list and can let you know who may not have been contacted.
Nancy Nation announced that we have signed up 92 golfers; however, we need 17 more foursomes to reach our goal of 150 golfers. She was happy to have seen Jim McIntosh, who promises to get a Fitzgerald's ad once again. She also read off the standings of the money raised by the various teams. Your scribe failed to get all the details, but the RedSox were in the lead.
Paul Mikkelson announced a new member to the Yard Goats team.
Doesn't seem like the right thing to do to a new team member who just got a full-page, color ad from Avon Dental Group. President Don may be rethinking his commitment!
Pencil Boxes
Circle the date~ Wednesday, August 17th. Gather 5 pm at the Nations' to assemble pencil boxes for Wish School. Great night for fellowship while completing a Rotary Project. This has been a significant project of the club for years and a great way to enjoy other members while helping kids in Hartford. President Don talked about walking down the halls of the school last year and seeing that all the pencil boxes were really being used and appreciated. We have 550 boxes to do for this year. Ocean State Job Lot has been a big help. We're waiting to get help from Walmart which has been so good in the past (We miss Alan Nasson.)
Pizza will be provided…sign up for an appetizer, salad, or dessert or beer and wine! Bring the family... kids love to be helping other kids….let’s have fun….hope to see you!
Avon Day
Steve Harris reported that Avon Day will be September 24th, and that he needs 12 Rotarians to assist. No Sam Collins Day this year, so this is your only chance to do your grill cook imitation.
Baseball
The Rotary Club of Avon-Canton "Baseball Challenge" 55 and Fun continues! Please work to support your team!
Check Presentation
Sheila Diamond accepted a $1,000 donation for the Seniors Job Bank. While her office is in West Hartford, the job bank serves six towns including Avon and Canton.
This picture demonstrates the involvement of current members, primarily due to the efforts of Bob Cave. Chuck Joseph is also involved. Sheila also commended Bill Noble for his efforts in the past.
