Joanne Santiago - describes herself as a "second generation chiropractor." She practices chiropractic and sports medicine in Avon. She is pleased that her daughter Joelle is well on her way to becoming the third generation involved in chiropractic medicine. Joanne is a 24 year member of the Club. She was pregnant with Joelle the year she joined. Joanne is a Past President and the longtime chair of the Paul Harris Committee.

Happy Dollars

Salin Low - is pleased with the contributions to Polio Plus so far.

Robin DiNicola - stated this weekend will be fun because it's Parents' Weekend at Avon Old Farms School which Robin's son attends.

Lisa Barall-Matt - and her daughter recently had the chance to eat at the Boston facility where her daughter's wedding reception will be held on September 12. Lisa reports the food was very good.

Phil Worley - reported that the March 3rd Pub Night was "great." The next Pub Night will be April 3 at the Lyme Grill in Avon. The Lyme Grill is located in the Riverdale Farms shopping area located on Route 10. (Picture is from the November '14 Pub Night).

Kay Kellogg - had a wonderful time in Chile and Argentina. Some of her activities included a Gaucho Luncheon and Tango dancing.

Jackie Dionne - the newest Club member, Jackie gave her first Happy Dollar. Things have been going much better at work.

Gary Miller - attended the Southington Rotary's meeting along with his tax accountant who belongs to that club. He also is excited that the Canton Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament will be coming up soon. See Gary for details.

Craig Buhrendorf - presented his Polio Plus check. He and Jeane enjoyed their trip to Panama. He learned there that Panama is constructing a new canal that will accommodate boats 50% larger than the ones the present canal can handle. Craig and Jeane also toured a coffee plantation and found out that dark roasted coffee has less caffeine than light roasted. Most people assume the opposite.

Ben Dunning - presented six Happy Dollars for the last six meetings which he had missed. He asserted he spent the entire six weeks filling trucks with salt and sand to combat icy roads.

Joanne Santiago - handed out flyers for the Canton Historical Museum's Art Sale Fundraiser which wlll be held March 15. (See below).

Bill Barnes - urged members to attend the Farmington Valley Symphony Orchestra concert Saturday, March 7. The program was titled "Calling Mr. Beethoven" and included Beethoven's Fifth Symphony.

Salin Low - President Salin had several items to share this week:

* She urged everyone to continue to get in touch with Nancy Nation who remains in California at this point. Nancy's e-mail address is NSNATION@aol.com.

* She revealed that she is coming out of retirement to sub in for a woman minister in Southington. Salin will be pinch hitting in July, August and September.

* She detailed that the Club will pay the registration fee for any member who would like to attend one day at the District Convention in Hartford.

District Governor Michael Roy has chosen to keep the conference in the District so "all members can easily attend and share in the celebration of another great Rotary year."

The conference will be held at the Hartford Marriott on Friday, April 24th and Saturday, April 25th. -

Joanne Santiago - announced that the Club will be honoring three of its members with Paul Harris Awards. The three are Chuck Joseph, Susan Budde and Lisa Barall-Matt.

Phil Worley - suggested that Club members leave their old Rotarian magazines in their doctors' waiting rooms. This is another way to get the word about Rotary out to the public.

Rich Janis - asked members to bring in more auction items for Tastes of the Valley.

Craig Buhrendorf - asserted that the member who has sold the most TOTV tickets is Josh Gillooly who so far has sold seventeen. Any member needng more tickets should see or contact Craig as soon as possible.

3-D PRINTING by Bryan Patton

Bryan Patton was introduced by his wife, Club member Devra Sisitsky.

Bryan, an engineer working in building and renovations, has become involved in 3-D Printing. He described 3-D Printing as "similar to using a glue gun with computer accuracy." One puts together a design on a computer, and the 3-D Printer puts down layer after layer of plastic through an extrusion process.

Any level of complexity is do-able. Invisalign, a product which straightens teeth, is produced through a 3-D Printing process.

Prototypes of 3-D Printing began to surface in the 1980's. Their is a surge in interest presently because people are creating and making things. Brian called it the "Make Movement." You can create a computer model of something and send it to the printer. There are programs that even enable the user to scan three dimensional items, convert them into a computer model and then everything gets sent to the 3-D Printer.

3-D Printing may bring medical costs down, as there are now 3-D Printers which make "cartilage" which gets implanted into patients. 3-D Printers can make prosthetic hands at a cost of $50 per hand.

The plastic in 3-D Printing is biodegradable. It could be a great alternative to conventional plastics which last thousands of years.

The Club's P.O. Box continued to collect dust this week.

Art Sale Fundraiser

Joanne Santiago is helping to promote an Art Sale Fundraiser at The Canton Historical Museum. The event will feature "recently donated archival works by the family of Canton Artist Nancy Douglass Cloutier."

The Art Sale will be held Sunday, March 15 from 4 to 7 p.m. There will be complimentary wine and cheese.

A $5 donation can be made at the door. The proceeds will benefit the Canton Historical Museum Building Fund.

Tastes of the Valley is March 21st!!!

There will be a full TOTV committee meeting on March 17 from 5 to 7 at Dish n' Dat.
