Robin DiNicola - thanked Salin Low for helping her with the Sergeant-At-Arms duties. Robin was pinch hitting on short notice.
Prasad Menoh - (Visiting Rotarian) asserted that today was his first time at an Avon-Canton meeting in a long time.
Larry Haber - took his granddaughter to Lake Compounce. They discovered she was tall enough to ride the adult roller coasters. A lot of time was spent riding them.
Heather Pantano - stated her daughter will turn one year old this coming week.
Salin Low - had a great time last week in New York City. She is looking forwrd to Sam Collins Day.
Anne Clark - said "this week was a big week for the Clark Family." Her grandson started at Holy Cross University. Her granddaughter is attending classes at Saint Andrew's in Scotland. Pat and Anne would've been celebrating their 53rd Anniversary. Anne added that she still celebrates that anniversary. (Pat was a beloved, longtime member of the Club).
Ben Dunning - will be spending Labor Day Weekend vactioning at a Fransican Monastery in Kennebunk Port, ME. Ben aso detailed that there will be an Amber Alert session at Burlington's Tavern Day celebration September 13th. Club volunteers are needed. The Crew Team from Lewis S. Mills High School that Ben's wife coaches will be helping with the Amber Alert as well.
Nancy Nation - and husband Craig took the RV up North for a few days. They attended a Rotary meeting at a fledgling Club in Londonderry, VT. That Club gave Nancy a little flag to bring back to our Club.
Linda Pendergast - updated that the UCONN Football team had won the previous night.
Jolly Lux - will be leaving for Uganda to continue her relief work on October 15th. One of the projects will be to install a water tank that will catch and filter rain water for the people to drink. Currently there is no potable water source in the area. Our Club provided the funding for the water tank.
Phil Worley - the September 2nd Rotary Pub Night was, by Phil's estimation, the "best ever." Fifteen Rotarians and guests attended. The Saybrook Fish House provided "non-stop hors' douevres." The next Pub night will be Tuesday, October 6th at a site in Avon that has yet to be determined. Phil added that Saybrook Fish House may become the regular Canton site for Pub Night.
Rollie Sterrett - and wife Karen will be at Cape Cod this weekend for their anniversary. In October, they will be aboard for a river cruise that will have stops in Budapest and Prague.
Michelle Hagan - has had a good summer. She's been away a lot, but the Club has been in her thoughts. Michelle, who handles golfer registrations for the tournament, shared that we now have 136 golfers signed up. There's room for more.
Nancy Nation - praised Michelle Hagan for getting the tournament information out to the golfers. Michelle has contacted, for at least the second time, all the past golfers who've yet to sign up for this year's festivities.
Don Bonner - and Nancy Nation went to the Wish School this week and found the Pencil Boxes from the Club were already being put to good use. Don asserted "be proud of what we do there."

Sam Collins Day - A Message From Salin Low
We will have a very busy week from September 19 to September 26 - Sam Collins, the golf outing, Avon Day. Our club has been instrumental in establishing and supporting both Sam Collins and Avon Day. We need your help in continuing those traditions.
We could use your help, maybe your spouse's or teen's help. I'd be happy to sign a letter vouching for community service hours for any teen. Our busiest shift is 11:00 to 1:30, but sign up where you can. If I don't hear from you, I'll figure you have other commitments.

9:00 - 11:00 a.m. - Set up and start cooking. (One more would help)

Avon Day - A Message from Steve Harris
Hello all; I am writing to let you know that I don't have enough volunteers to operate our food booth for Avon Day. Its Saturday Sept 26 behind Pine Grove and Thompson Brook schools. I now have 7 volunteers but need 5 more; two at 1:00 and three at 3:00. Newer members: this is a great way to see us in action (and you eat free!!). Please help me asap or we cannot keep the booth open. thx.

Check Your Golf Ads Online
Nancy Nation reminds Club members that you should go to the Club website and check on the golf ads you brought in this year. All the ads have been posted there. Please check for accuracy and make sure the ads meet the specifications the sponsors asked for.
Golf Raffle/Auction - A Message From Sue Budde
The golf tournament is less than 2 weeks away. This is a reminder that, if you have or are securing an item for the raffle or silent action, please be sure to get it to me by this Friday, September 11th as I will be using this weekend to organize and package the prizes.

Golf Tournament Dinner - Set Up/Clean-Up
Ann Clark needs members for setting up and cleaning up at the tournament dinner. She's hoping some males will volunteer to set up the tables and chairs, a job that is physically demanding. Tables and chairs will begin right at 3 o'clock when the Club is allowed to takeover the building.
Wolfpack Hockey
Les Zinner is trying to gauge interest in another Wolfpack Hockey Night for the Club. Last year's Avon-Canton Rotary Hockey Trip was a big success.Over 30 members and spouses attended, which allowed the Club to purchase tickets at the lowest possible group rate. Please let Les know if you are interested.
Avon Day/Amber Alert
Avon Day is scheduled for September 26. Tom Voorhees has detailed that there will be an Amber Alert session at Avon Day. He is in need of volunteers.
Simsbury-Granby Rotary Costume Party
Today's Visiting Rotarian Prasad Menoh (Past District Governor), alerted our Club that the Simsbury-Granby Club will hold a Halloween-related Costume Party on October 30th. Last year's edition, which was held at the 1820 House, sold out. This year's Party will be held at the Simsbury Inn. Prasad predicts it will be great fun, and he foresees another sell-out. Rotary Pub Night
Coming off a very successful September Rotary Pub Night, our next Rotary Pub Night (RPN) will be held Tuesday, October 6th at an Avon site to be determined. Phil Worley will let the Club know the location soon.
As you have heard a few times, RPN is all about socializing, networking and getting to know your fellow Rotarians and their guests better. Bring your spouses, significant others, partners, friends, prospective Rotarians, etc.
You may, of course, come and go whenever you want to. Should you wish to eat before, during or after RPN, there are plenty of choices including a pub menu.
Please note that RPN now alternates between Tuesday and Wednesday each month to accommodate Rotarians who can participate on one of those days but not the other.
