John Shea - and family just returned from a week at the Outer Banks.
Salin Low - is happy that it's now Gary at the podium every week. She reminded all that Thursday is the Senior Luncheon. Club members who have volunteered should wear their blue Rotary shirts. The Club's involvement at the Luncheon will probably run from 10:30 to 1:30.
Rollie Sterrett - and his wife Karen spent a week at Nantucket with their grandkids. He detailed that helicopters buzzed the shore area frequently looking for sharks.
Steve Roberto - and his son spent a week in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey looking for reptiles and amphibians. They saw toads that live underground and come out briefly once a year to breed. They also spotted 24 Diamondback Terrapins.
Larry Sullivan - told a funny joke about a couple who go to marriage counselling.
Shawn Cole - thanked the Club for its $500 donation which will help fund the first ever "Collinsville Hot" event to be held July 25.
Nancy Nation - informed members that the Club will be receiving a $1,000 grant from WalMart to buy the supplies for this year's Pencil Box Project.
Lisa Barall-Matt - is excited about her daughter's upcoming wedding shower.
Mark Steier - will be flying to Atlanta after the Club meeting to celebrate his father-in-law's 90th birthday. Additionally, Mark recently talked with longtime Club member Jim McIntosh who sends his regards to all.
Craig Buhrendorf - outlined several Happy Dollars:
1. He welcomed the new Club and District administrators.
2. He enjoyed the Fourth of July concert at Simsbury Meadows.
3. He and Jeane had a good workout hiking out to the Heublein Tower.
4. He termed the July 7th Pub Night a "great success."
5. He is excited that the Yankees and Red Sox will be playing a three games series over the weekend.
6. He and Jeane will be meeting up with 40 international travellers in Boston on Sunday to discuss their recent and future trips.
Joanne Santiago - stated that the Foundation checks are coming in, and she encourages members to make their Foundation donations at the same time they pay their Club dues.
Marcel Schmidt - was happy to see Tom Voorhees whom he has known through Rotary for many years. Marcel is a member of the Southwick Rotary Club, and he is District 7890's Lieutenant Governor.
Tom Voorhees - wishes today's visiting District officials a good Rotary year.
Bob Cave - thanked Club members who volunteer their time to help with the Senior Job Bank.
Jolly Lux - updated that, tomorrow in Uganda, there will be a seminar for residents on how to write a business plan. This should help residents who would like to establish entrepreneurial situations.
Evan Cooper - explained that she was in Philadelphia the day of the President's Dinner for her son's graduation from medical school. Last week, she and her husband Ross celebrated their 31st Anniversary.
Kyóng Wilson - District 7890's new Governor was enjoying her "official" visit to the Rotary Club of Avon-Canton. She mentioned that she wants to re-establish the District newsletter, and Club member Dale Bronson has agreed to do the layout.
Hap Leabman - is the Assistant Governor who will oversee and support the Club from 2015 through 2018. He also oversees the Farmington and West Hartford Rotary Clubs which are combining forces to help sponsor the CT Kinetic Sculpture Race Sunday, September 20. Race participants must design a human powered "vehicle" that can travel 8 miles over pavement, grass, sand and water. The event will be held at Winding Trails in Farmington. Steve Roberto needs volunteers for Avon Day which is scheduled for September 26.
The Dues Are Due
Robin DiNicola is now collecting annual dues for 2015-1016 Rotary year. Dues this year are $150. They must be paid by July 31st in order to remain in good standing with the Club.
Sooner Than Later

Nancy Nation noted that it will be her birthday next week. She added "if members want to make my birthday special, they should bring in lots and lots of ads and golfers." Nancy reminded everyone that this year's rallying cry is "sooner than later."
Pub Night
Mark your calendar for the August Rotary Pub Night at the Seasons Restaurant Tap Room, Avon Old Farms Hotel. It will be 4 - 7 pm, more or less, on Wednesday, August 4 and free hors d'oeuvres will be provided. (RPN now alternates between Tuesday and Wednesday each month to accommodate Rotarians who can participate on one of those days but not the other.

Raffle items for the Golf Tournament are coming in, although not at the speed I'm used to from the past few years. I'm asking all Rotarians to reach out to their contacts, friends, and associates... If everyone could secure just one item, we'd be in great shape! Items like gift certificates, gift baskets, tickets to events, and even items like handbags, jewelry, electronics, etc. are just a few ideas for raffle items. We'd also love to get some golf items, so if anyone knows where to get them, please reach out. Letters soliciting donations from all past donors went out in early June, so if you have any questions about the status of a donor you've solicited in the past, please feel free to reach out to me.
I'm also looking for some people who can help me follow up on the letters that went out. (We sent out more than 230 letters and I can't possibly call them all myself!) I will happily supply you with a copy of the letter we sent out and a list of potential donors to call. The personal touch of a follow up call almost always results in more donations, so this step is key! Please contact me if you can help with this step.

I'm looking for speakers for the coming months. I have July 31st open, but might have someone. I'm definitely interested if you have a program in mind for that date. We also have August 28 and all of September open.
Please give some thought to finding interesting topics and programs. Presentations about hobbies, groups you belong to etc. would be great. Other than selling or marketing a product or service and Rollie's fish pictures, we are very open to most subjects. Steve Roberto's wine tasting program is a good example of something a little different than our norm, but a really well received program.

District Golf Tournament

You are cordially invited to attend the District 7890 Golf Outing on Monday, August 3, 2015 at Twin Hills Country Club in Longmeadow, MA. Have a great afternoon of golfing, fellowship, great food and fun all for the price of $125 – the same as last year.
Registration starts at 10:00 am
A barbeque lunch will be served at 11:30 am with a shotgun start at 12: 30 pm
