Birthdays

Ann Clark - as a "Rotary Annie" or Rotary member, Ann has been involved with Rotary since the 1980's. She thinks of the Club as family, and she adds "it's nice having breakfast with a crowd instead of eating alone." Ann is the Avon Democratic Registrar of Voters. She is also a mainstay in the Avon Garden Club.

Len Dunstan - is a seven year member of the Club. He calls the Rotary Club of Avon-Canton "amazing." He looks forward to the Friday morning meetings. Len has three children and two grandchildren. He lives in Canton. His jewelry shop in Avon is now in its 30th year.

Tom Voorhees - states "it's not good to have too many birthdays. They can be injurious to your health." Tom is in his 35th year with the Club. He belonged to a club in New Jersey prior to that. Tom is a Past District Governor. He and his wife Mary Ellen live in Avon.

The Canton High School Chamber Singers led the Club in singing "Happy Birthday" to Ann, Len and Tom.

Happy Dollars

Nancy Nation - confirmed that the presents for the military families were delivered by her and Craig. Nancy also acknowledged the presence of the Canton High School Chamber Singers and said she's happy the schools allow the students to sing Christmas Carols.

Lisa Barall-Matt - thanked Steve Roberto for fixing the dent in her car. Don Bonner called this a commercial endorsement and called for a $1 fine.

Larry Haber - updated that his youngest son just turned 40. He and Linda will be traveling to Portland, Maine for a holiday concert involving his nephew.

Scott Nardozzi - is "elated" to be back at a Club meeting after missing several weeks because of injuries incurred during a serious auto accident. He thanked everyone for their support. (Several Club members gave Happy Dollars to honor Scott's return).

Bob Cave - thanked Capri Frank and her family for hosting the Club Holiday Party on December 15th. Others expressing thanks included Robin DiNicola and President Gary Miller.

President Gary presented our breakfast attendants Shawn and Troy with a sizable holiday gratuity comprised of donations from Club members.

Community Service Committee

The Community Service Committee will meet this Friday (January 8) after the Club meeting.

The December 18th online edition of the Hartford Courant included a write-up with the headline Rotary Club of Avon-Canton Gives $12,000 to Non-Profit Organizations.

Scheduling Speakers

Ike Eikenhorst is now scheduling speakers for March and beyond. Speakers are needed after that date, but keep in mind that the third Friday of each month is held aside for club business. Remember, business pitches are not allowed. Otherwise, persons with interesting jobs, hobbies, charitable activities, etc. will be welcome to present their stories. Presentations must not exceed 20 minutes.

Rotary Pub Night

The next Rotary Pub Night will be Tuesday evening, January 5, 4:30 - 6:30 pm at Avon Old Farms Hotel, specifically at the hotel's Seasons Restaurant Tap Room. Alternating between Tuesdays and Wednesdays didn't yield the desired results, so we are going back to the first Tuesday of the month for all RPNs.

As you have heard a few times, RPN is all about socializing, networking and getting to know your fellow Rotarians and their guests better. Bring your spouses, significant others, partners, pen pals, friends, prospective Rotarians, etc.

Our February RPN will be February 2nd, 4 - 6 pm at the Saybrook Fish House in Canton.

Lonely Rotarians Society

The Lonely Rotarians Society met December 31st at LaSalle Market. LRS meets on the occasional Friday when there is no Club meeting. All members are welcome to attend.

Paul Harris Pin

Craig Buhrendorf was presented with a Five Stone Paul Harris pin in recognition of his donation level to the Rotary Foundation. The pin was presented by Tom Voorhees, who was subbing for Foundation Committee Chair Joanne Santiago, and Club President Gary Miller. Craig is a long time member of the Club and a Past President. He presently is an At-Large member of the Board of Directors and the Chair of the International Committee.

The Rotary Foundation is recognized as one of the Top 5 Foundations in the world.

Canton High School Chamber Singers

The Canton High School Chamber Singers sang a few secular songs, among them the jazzy and humorous "Tragedy of MacBeth," and numerous holiday favorites including:

The Chamber Singers then accompanied Don Bonner to the lobby of Avon Old Farms where Don spoke on air with WTIC radio personality Ray Galloway, and the students sang several more holiday favorites. Don presented the Salvation Army Holiday Store with a check from the Club in the amount of $3500. The Club matched all donations from its individual members.

The Chamber Singers are led by their teacher Brett Gottheimer. The group was scheduled to sing carols the next day at the Canton Shop Rite.

Longtime Club member Wayne Carver asked to be remembered to everyone and wished everyone a Merry Christmas.
