Happy Dollars
Michelle Hagen - pointed out that this was the first time in a long time that she and Kim McDonald were at the same meeting.
Mike Garcia - has accepted an Executive Director's position in Buffalo, NY. He asserts "it's a great opportunity." Mike will be joining a Rotary Club in Buffalo. He will be moving next month.
Larry Sullivan - since the last meeting, Larry experienced some chest pain. A stress test showed that his heart is strong. He was very relieved.
Rollie Sterrett - On Octover 13, Rollie and Karen brought thier granddaughters to the Roaring Brook Nature Center. They loved it. They met met Jay, the director, who was very complimentary regarding the Club's support of the nature center over many years. Rollie showed Karen and the girls the structure at the rear entrance which Ted Cowles designed and built with help from several other club members. Rollie stated "I brought coffee and donuts that day....but never opened my 20 year old, "brand-new" toolbox or the manual on how to use the tools." Rollie's Happy Dollars were to recognize Ted for the work he did at the Nature Center.
Additionally, Rollie outlined that he and Karen leave Thursday, October 22nd for a River Cruise that will visit Budapest, Nuremburg and Prague.
Carol Sutton - is the President of the Palm Beach, Florida Rotary Club. She used to live in Simsbury, and she would do her make-ups at the Rotary Club of Avon-Canton. She read about the Club in an article that Len Dunstan wrote. One of her sons is a Rotary Club President as well.
Gary Hyde - shared that his youngest son got married last Saturday, October 10th. The weather was terrific. The grandkids almost wrecked the cake, but a crisis was averted.
Gary is ecstatic that his New York Mets are going on to the National League Championship Series. If there is a Game 7, his son has two tickets, and Gary will get to go to a playoff game.
Ann Clark - said it was great to see members of the Torrington Rotary at today's meeting, especially because they belonged to the Winsted Rotary Club when her husband Pat was the President there.
Tom Voorhees - wondered aloud why Rollie Sterrett didn't mention the recent Colgate hockey game. (Colgate lost).
Dale Bronson - had $24 Happy Dollars for Chris' and his 24th Wedding Anniversary. He added "it's been the best twenty-four years ever." Dale also told a joke about a young guy and an old guy jogging on the boardwalk.
Robin DiNicola - it's Parents' Weekend at Avon Old Farms School. Robin is greatly involved.
Nancy Nation - and husband Craig will be leaving for California soon. They will be back in time for Thanksgiving.
Lisa Barall-Matt - and her husband Todd are about to celebrate their 9th Wedding Anniversary. They will be traveling to Nashville for a business conference and for pleasure.
Jolly Lux - four weeks from today, Jolly will undertake another mission to Uganda. She thanked the Club for its support of her volunteer work there.
Phil Worley - declared that last week's Rotary Pub Night was a "great success." The crowd included 15 Club members and 5 guests.
Ted Cowles - has enjoyed this year's Fall foliage. He "can't remember when Winnepesaukee looked so beautiful." Ted is currently designing a hiking trail for the town of Moultonborough, NH.
Bill Harding (Torrington Rotary) - and his wife are celebrating their 10th Wedding Anniversary. He joked about his wife giving him a chainsaw as an anniversary gift.
Nat Warden - gave Happy Dollars for "the Red Sox who will be the 2016 Champions."
Capri Frank - had several Happy Dollars:
* She welcomed the guests from the Torrington Rotary.
* She detailed her son's "serious car accident." She explained he is "on the road to recovery with a new attitude on life."
* She described the recent Chamber of Commerce Dinner which was held at Miller Foods, adding that Miller Foods is "very willing to host non-profit groups."
* She asked Club members to attend "Woofstock" scheduled for Saturday the 17th at Miller Foods.
* She announced that there will be a holiday dinner for the Club at Millers. The date has yet to be set.
Sue Budde - also encouraged Club members to attend "Woofstock, A Day of Peace, Love and Pooches." Money raised at "Woofstock" goes to the Rob Branham Foundation, a group that helps families who are flooded with medical bills because of leukemia and other blood-related diseases. There will be over 40 "pooch-related vendors" on the premises.
Joanne Santiago - recollected that the Rob Branham Foundation was a great help when her daughter Laura was stricken with cancer. She urged everyone to make the effort to spend some time at "Woofstock."
Joanne updated on the Club's giving to the Rotary Foundation. She stated that the contributions are coming in faster than they did last year.
Gary Miller - thanked Don Bonner for presiding over last week's meeting. Gary was in Asheville, NC to hear his daughter speak at a conference.

Turkey Trot
Turkey Trot is coming up again on Wednesday, November 18th. Contact Ed Lamphier at 860-658-5453 to reserve a 2-hour shift at the Canton ShopRite.
Shifts start at 10am, 12 pm, 2pm, 4pm or 6pm.
Rotary Pub Night
Our next Rotary Pub Night (RPN) will be Wednesday evening, November 4, at Saybrook Fish House in Canton.
Phil Worley stated at today's meeting that he will buy the first drink for any "new Club members" in attendance.
RPN is all about socializing, networking and getting to know your fellow Rotarians and their guests better. Bring your spouses, significant others, partners, friends, prospective Rotarians, etc. You may, of course, come and go whenever you want to.
Please note that RPN now alternates between Tuesday and Wednesday each month to accommodate Rotarians who can participate on one of those days but not the other.

Better yet, come see, hear and meet her at our Foundation Dinner on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Chez Josef, 176 Shoemaker Lane, Agawam, MA from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
She will be talking about Hawkwing, a Native American non-profit 501(c) 3 organization. The organization was created to offer cross-cultural education while assisting the people of the Lakota (Sioux) Cheyenne River Indian Reservation in South Dakota meet their basic human needs.
Dinner is $45 Per Person
