Getting to Know is the first in a series of profiles of recently inducted new members.
 

Bruce Sayward grew up in Southington, CT doing woodworking with his father, who did it as a hobby.  He eventually became a carpenter and has had his own business, Sayward Companies, LLC for over thirty-three years.  Early in his professional life, Bruce spent eight years living in Colorado and Maine. During his time away from Connecticut, he served in the Air Force as a Munitions Maintenance Specialist and attended classes at Colorado State and the University of Maine.  He returned to Southington where he currently lives with his wife Bonnie.

Bruce has been active in our community.  In the late 1990’s he lead a committee that started the Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society in Southington.  More recently he served on the Board for the Avon Chamber of Commerce and was honored by the Chamber with the “Small Business of the Year” award in 2016.  He has also served as a coordinator for Dog Star Rescue and is currently Chair of the regional “Rotary Means Business” initiative for the Rotary of Avon-Canton.
 

As an avowed animal lover, Bruce has a dog “Lady” who was rescued via Dog Star Rescue.  Bruce’s daughter Nicole lives in Ithaca, New York and is a part-time student and part-time photographer.  His stepson, Mike lives in Bristol with his wife and three boys and is Director of Operations for the Waterbury YMCA.
